Match! Download Area
On this page you will find the Match! demo version as well as
free-of-charge reference patterns calculated from AMCSD, COD, and
IUCr CIF files. The reference patterns can be downloaded as ready-to-use
self-extracting and -installing packages. They can be used with Match! version 1.7 or higher.
Match! demonstration version
The functionality of the Match! demonstration version is equivalent to the full version - the
only difference being the time-limited licence: Once you have installed the
software, the demo version licence remains valid for 2 months.
The Match! demo version is distributed as compressed self-extracting executable files
for Windows 32-bit
operating systems (98, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Vista). It is provided with a
detailed tutorial and sample files.
We offer two different demo packages:
- The complete demo version includes reference patterns calculated
from the AMCSD (see below). We strongly recommend to download this complete demo
version, because the examples in the tutorial refer
to the AMCSD reference pattern data!
- The slim demo version does not include the AMCSD reference pattern database.
If you encounter problems when downloading the complete demo version, you can download
the slim demo version instead. Afterwards, you can download and install the AMCSD reference database package separately,
following the guidelines below.
Please download the appropriate demo version package using the corresponding link
below. Afterwards, double-click on the
downloaded file in order to start the installation. Please see the
README.RTF document for details about installation, documentation etc.

Please read if you are using Windows Vista
If you are using Microsoft Vista as operating system, please note that the first time you execute
the Match! demoversion, you need to do this using administrator rights explicitly. Please restart Match! by
right-clicking on the file "Match.exe" in the Match! program directory (e.g. "C:\Program Files\Match"),
then select "Run as administrator" from the context menu.
Thanks to the efforts of Prof. Santiago Rodríguez Almenar of the Escuela Superior de Cerámica de Manises (Manises Valencia/Spain),
excellent quickstart and tutorial documents are available in Spanish language.
Since the release of Match! version 1.7 it is not only possible to use any ICDD PDF database
product (as with the past versions), but also to use free-of-charge reference patterns
calculated from crystal structure data that are available free-of-charge on the
internet. These data come from:
In this context, we would like to thank Pete Strickland (IUCr), Armel Le Bail (COD)
and Bob Downs (AMCSD) for their kind permission to download and distribute their
data free-of-charge!
There are three different reference database packages available:
You can download a package containing reference patterns from the AMCSD only, from the COD only,
or the complete reference pattern database containing AMCSD, COD, and IUCr data. Each reference
database is provided as a self-extracting and -installing executable file.
Download the appropriate file using the
corresponding link below. Afterwards, double-click on the downloaded file in order
to start the installation of the reference pattern database. After the installation,
the new reference database can be used straight away, without requiring a new time-consuming re-indexation.
We have run several tests in order to evaluate the quality of the various reference databases mentioned above:
Compared to using the classical ICDD PDF database, our tests reveal a somewhat diverse performace when using
the free-of-charge IUCr/COD/AMCSD reference patterns: When mineral samples were investigated, the results were
generally very good, thanks to the excellent coverage of the AMCSD. Even for many samples other than minerals,
the correct phases were identified in most cases, however, we found some (few) samples where main phases were not
recognized because the corresponding reference patterns were not present in the IUCr/COD/AMCSD reference database.
In all cases, it was no problem to identify all phases when using the ICDD PDF-2 Release 2007 database.
According to our experience, it is optimal to combine the IUCr/COD/AMCSD database (which basically contains
more recent entries) with a user database created from ICSD/Retrieve (which typically contains "older" entries).
Using such a combined reference database is the best solution if you do not have a recent ICDD PDF database available!
